Hands On Democracy

It's Time to Pick A Candidate for the Texas Public Radio Party

Texas Public Radio is throwing a political party for its next family adventure, Hands On Democracy. Join us at The Magik Theater, Sunday, April 13, from 1 to 4 p.m., for a fun and lively educational experience.

We've partnered with the San Antonio area League of Women Voters and The Magik Theater to expose TPR members and their families to the political process.

The League of Women Voters will walk us through a mock third party convention as we caucus for a presidential candidate to represent the “Texas Public Radio Party.”

On the ballot are the woodland creatures featured on Texas Public Radio’s latest artist-designed T-shirt, including PRIARIE HOMEDOG, IRA FLATOAD, B.J. LEIDERMOUSE, and NINA TOTENSNAIL.

Attendees will have an opportunity to hear a live debate and make placards to show their support for their favorite fictitious candidate. Then they will participate as delegates in a real-life convention as they caucus to choose a presidential nominee for the Texas Public Radio party.

Throughout the mock convention, performers from The Magik Theater will perform songs from the nostalgia-inducing School House Rock, including “I’m Just a Bill” and “Sufferin’ till Suffrage.”

Hands On is free to current TPR members and their families. Click here to reserve your place now for this event. Or call 800-622-8977 to make your reservation.
