A little more than 18 months after the most destructive wildfire in Texas history, Bastrop is coming together once again, this time to celebrate resiliency, recovery, and hope.

Those themes will be the primary focus as Bastrop residents join with state and local dignitaries this Friday to celebrate the 124th Texas Arbor Day.

Texas A&M Forester Service Director Tom Boggus said Arbor Day is special because it celebrates the bond between Texans and our trees.

SAISD Superintendent Candidate Withdraws from Consideration

Days after the San Antonio Independent School District named a candidate for the district's top job, Dr. Manuel Isquierdo withdrew his name from consideration.

Monday, the SAISD School Board voted to name Isquierdo the "lone finalist" for the position.

SAISD School Board President Ed Garza announced the move Friday afternoon, saying Isquierdo felt the decision was in the best interest of all parties involved.

Bexar County Offering Paid Summer Arts Internships

The application period is open for Bexar County's inaugural arts internship program this summer. The program is funding nine summer internships with local nonprofit arts organizations and will allow the nonprofits an opportunity to offer a paid 10-week summer internship to attract motivated college students to work on seasonal or special projects.

Thanks To Sequestration Cuts, No Air Show At Randolph This Year

Joint Base San Antonio has canceled plans for a November air show at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph. The Air Force Thunderbirds were scheduled to headline the event that included other military aircraft.

According to JBSA, Air Force aviation support to public events has been canceled to save flying hours to support readiness needs.

A public opinion poll conducted by faculty members at the University of Texas in association with the Texas Tribune found that the economy, immigration and education are top of mind for most, yet water registers as a top issue with only 4 percent.
