As the NBA Finals shift to Miami for game 6 and possibly game 7, the extended series means that money generated by the games will continue to boost the league, broadcast carriers and the host cities.

Based on numbers from the last two NBA Finals in host cities Dallas, Oklahoma City and Miami, the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce estimated an economic impact of about $4 million per game.

What would an Spurs playoff series be without former NBA star Charles Barkley, San Antonio's nemesis?

Barkley, who also happens to love Manu Ginóbili, the entire Spurs franchise and Mayor Julián Castro, is back as part of the NBA TV coverage team and he hasn't changed his tune, nor has he come up with any new jokes about San Antonio women.

Last year during the Western Conference Final against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Barkley and Castro traded (friendly) blows on air with the mayor inviting him for a sightseeing trip:

The new VIA smartphone app, Go VIA VIA, has a real chance at changing the landscape of transportation in San Antonio by making it easier for long-time riders and new riders to navigate the intricate maze of bus routes and schedules. (see note about new riders at bottom of post*)

Go VIA VIA has been out for Apple and Android devices since Monday, and it already has some fans and critics. The bottom line, though, is that it is far better than the old app--which wasn't interactive in any way, shape or form.

Eight of the 15 fastest-growing large cities in the United States are in Texas, but among those eight, it may come as a surprise that San Marcos is leading the charge, with a 4.9 percent rate of growth.

San Marcos had the highest rate of growth between July 2011 and July 2012 among all "large cities" in the U.S. (defined as cities and towns with at least 50,000 people). They made the list by the skin of their teeth, barely cracking the mark with a Census Bureau population estimate of 50,001.

Nearly 300 Edison High School students got hands-on experience with triage and search-and-rescue on Monday morning. A simulated school bus "explosion" was part of a four-hour training exercise at the Public Safety Magnet school. The students played the role of first responders.

It's a scenario that no one wants to see happen: An I.E.D. explodes on an SAISD school bus, injuring several dozen students--followed by a second blast a few minutes later.

District 4 Councilman Rey Saldaña beat his challenger with 84 percent of the vote, East Side Councilwoman Ivy Taylor will be returning for a third term, Ray Lopez of District 6 and Cris Medina of District 7 each won their races handily, as did District 9 and 10 Council Members Elisa Chan and Carlton Soules.

The San Antonio Water System board just approved a program that will help customers transform portions of their landscape to save water.

Though past landscape programs have required customers to make purchases up front to get a rebate, the new program issues a coupon before the purchase, giving households a discount on approved plants and a required amount of mulch at a local nursery.

Kao=S Mixes Traditional & Modern Japan To Make Music & Visual Art

Tokyo-based Kao=S (pronounced 'kaus' - like house) mixes modern acoustic rock guitar riffs with the tsugaru syamisen - a traditional Japanese string instrument - accompanied by the shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute) and Japanese sword performance.

The band is made up of Kaori (vocal/sword performance), Shuji (guitar/vocal), Jack (tsugaru syamisen and Daisuke (shakuhachi).

"Me and Jack played together in a different [group] and I met Shuji [when] I went to Shuji's live show and I talked to him [and said], 'Let's play together,'" Kaori said.

Japan's Shugo Tokumaru Is In Control And 'In Focus'

For his latest album, "In Focus?," Shugo Tokumaru maintained complete control over the creative process and played all the instruments on the recorded disk. In order to perform live, however, he needed some help, and had his band to back him up.

While the band delivered the songs with energy, complete with the subtle textural nuances that give Shugo's songs a little something special, he was visibly focused on the other two musicians during their performance the afternoon of March 14.
