An annual report from Children At Risk, a Houston-based nonprofit and advocacy group, focused on public schools in Texas and found that while other major cities were seeing improvements in a variety of metrics, several of San Antonio's school districts were not measuring up.

Police Cadets Graduate, Immediately Begin Work At SAPD

The newest class of San Antonio police cadets wasted no time getting to work, heading out on the job directly after walking the stage at their graduation ceremony.

The class, known as 2012-B, which began training late last year, graduated Friday at the Lila Cockrell Theatre downtown.

39 police cadets spent eight months going through intense training, saying it was both mentally and physically challenging.

But graduation day is a time for pride and celebration.

KTXI 90.1 Off-Air (Part Time) For Maintenance

Beginning Saturday, May 18, listeners to KTXI 90.1 FM in the Hill Country will experience signal loss as KTXI is taken off-air to allow additional antennas to be installed on the tower the station is broadcast from.

These antennas are not for KTXI use, but are being installed by a cell phone tenant that leases space on the tower, just as Texas Public Radio does.

Fallen Deputies To Be Honored At Public Ceremony

As part of National Police Week, San Antonio Police Department and Bexar County Sheriff's Department are honoring their slain officers and deputies.

SAPD held a ceremony earlier this week and Sheriff Susan Pamerleau will hold a special candlelight vigil Thursday evening for members of her department - the first time Bexar County has held such a private event.

At least that is what the people who lose think.

This term is often thrown around when "people vote against their interest" or "the media frames an issue in a way to mislead."

San Antonio Area Foundation Receives $7 Million Gift

The San Antonio Area Foundation has received one of its largest single gifts in its history thanks to a gift bequeathed in the will of Mary Jane K Lewis.

Area Foundation Spokesman Joel Williams said Lewis had been a contributor with her late husband since 1994.

"In her will she left the Area Foundation more than $7 million to manage and to have it in a permanent fund that makes annual grants to local charities," Williams said.
