Mission Reach Opens Paddling, Two Popular City Parks

On Tuesday, Bexar County officials announced the opening of another section of the Mission Reach. The new section will be ready for use just in time for Easter celebrations.

The new 2 mile section of Mission Reach from Padre Park to Mission San Juan will offer more hiking, biking, and paddling opportunities for river enthusiasts.

River South Management Plan Continues Development Of Mission Reach

The San Antonio River Authority has secured the final approval it needs to move forward with a coordinated plan to develop the area in and around the Mission Reach.

Portions of the Mission Reach below Lone Star Blvd. to Loop 410 South opened to hikers and cyclists last year. Much like they’ve done on the Museum Reach north of downtown, SARA has been rebuilding the riparian habitat by installing native plants and other elements to encourage wildlife.

B-Cycle Continues Expansion On South Side To Missions San Jose And Concepción

San Antonio’s bike share program is expanding into the South Side with several new B-cycle kiosks around the Missions.

Cyclists rode to Mission San Jose to illustrate the new availability of B-cycle just south of downtown; six new stations have been added at some of San Antonio’s Mission’s along the Mission Reach.

New Portion of Mission Reach Open - More Trees on the Way

It’s still nearly a year before the Mission Reach is completed, but a new stretch is now open to the public. The San Antonio River Authority and Bexar County have added an additional 1.5 mile loop near Theo Avenue and a hike and bike bridge over Concepciόn Creek.

SARA General Manager Suzanne Scott said the $3.5 million restoration of this section of the river will include the planting of new trees.
