The works of an artist that many feel represents America itself will be on exhibit in San Antonio this week when a landmark Normal Rockwell exhibit opens at the McNay.

This is more than a collection of Rockwell’s artworks. Instead, Normal Rockwell: Behind the Camera, offers a behind-the-scenes journey through the creative process, showing how Rockwell developed his iconic images.

Visit Seven Cultural Institutions With One Pass On 'Broadway Reach'

Seven institutions along the Broadway corridor have created a collaborative to showcase the art, culture and history available in a tightly-knit area north of downtown.

The multi-level effort was first brainstormed during SA 2020 meetings almost three years ago.

"Well, we’ve been working together for a number of years, meeting and talking about how we could work together more effectively," said Dr. William Chiego, director of the McNay Art Museum.

Former Witte Curator Cecilia Steinfeldt, The "First Lady Of Texas Art," Dies

Curator Emeritus Cecilia Steinfeldt, who served as an iconic and creative influence during her 60-year career, passed away Friday, May 17, in San Antonio.

Steinfeldt, who was born in Wisconsin in 1915, moved to San Antonio in 1923. Her parents enrolled her in art classes at the Witte Memorial Museum in 1925.

She became a young woman during the Great Depression, and after high school took advantage of the Mexican government’s offer of free art supplies and tuition to study art in Mexico City under Carlos Merida.

Underneath heavily-traveled Interstate 35 at Theo and Malone, in an unexpected place for art, six spherical chandeliers bathe the ground, concrete columns and underside of the bridge with rich, vibrant color and transform an otherwise industrial thoroughfare into an enjoyable space for pedestrians and drivers.

Ballroom Luminoso is the first public art project to be completed under the new bond program approved by voters in 2012.

UTSA Professor Named 2014 Texas State Visual Artist 3-D

UTSA Art Professor Ken Little of UTSA’s College of Liberal and Fine Arts has been selected to serve as the 2014 Texas State Visual Artist 3-D.

Little is one of a handful of artists recognized by the Texas Commission on the Arts and will help contribute to a distinctive cultural identity that is Texas.

Video: World-Class Light/Video Installation Coming To Main Plaza

Arriving next year is a 15-minute installation by French artist and world-renown painter Xavier de Richemont. The art video will be projected onto the façade of San Fernando Cathedral, with 7,000 square feet of light, color and visual narration.

The video offers the historical journey through the settlement of San Antonio and Bexar County, and is Main Plaza’s first outdoor video/art project.

San Anto Cultural Arts Students Build Giant Paleta Bike Rack

Fifteen young artists studying at the San Anto Cultural Arts Center are working on their first public art sculpture, thanks to a grant from Awesome S-A.

The students thought of an artistic way to meet the ongoing need for bike storage at the center.

Luminaria Returns To Light Up Downtown Streets

In one month, San Antonio will once again be illuminated for the city’s annual multi-media art show known as Luminaria.

The annual arts and culture show fills downtown with music, lights, and unique art displays from over 600 artists and 80 musicians. HemisFair Park is practically turned into a living lit-up painting. Mayor Julián Castro said Luminaria is the largest single-night arts event in Texas.
