A UTSA engineering and business student team has received the $100,000 prize in the Student Technology Venture Competition for its work on a device to help amputees.

The team developed a cooling device for prosthetics – and a way to market the product.

Before Gary Walters graduated with a Bachelors in Engineering Monday, he and his teammates had already started a company to market the device he designed for his engineering team’s Capstone project.

A local physician is making history with an advanced technology to treat problems with vocal cords, and people are coming to San Antonio from around the country for the procedure.

Dr. Blake Simpson at UT Medicine San Antonio, the clinical practice of the School of Medicine at the Health Science Center, specializes in voice disorders and for the last six years has used a procedure to remove polyps and other growths on the vocal cords using a laser fiber.

Toyota USA Foundation Gives Boost To STEM Education

The Toyota USA Foundation announced it will contribute $100,000 to the annual CORE4 STEM Expo for students studying science, technology, engineering, and math.

Google Grant Awarded To TIER Program At Northwest Vista College

The Texas Institute for Educational Robotics (TIER) at Northwest Vista College has been awarded a grant from the Google Computer Sciences for High School program.

TIER is an outreach program at Northwest Vista College to get younger students interested in pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering and math and was awarded the money to give middle school teachers a gaming-type tool to use in teaching their regular classes.

SAISD Testing Tablets To Increase Student Performance

San Antonio Independent School District is testing out technology to increase student performance.

This semester, 22 students at Fox Tech high school will do their reading, check assignments and conduct lab experiments using a Kindle tablet.

Senior Marina Garcia is one of the students taking part in the pilot program in one of the school’s advanced placement biology classes.
