The Texas Department of Insurance has finalized a list of additional rules federal navigators will have to follow before helping anyone sign up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act’s website, Healthcare.gov.
The rules come as a response to a letter issued by Gov. Rick Perry that points to privacy and security concerns about the current federal standard for navigators working in Texas to help navigate the Affordable Care Act’s website.
A new exhibit at the Blue Star Contemporary Art Museum is getting some heated interest and the reason is probably because if its subject mater, and size. It’s not exactly something you can hang on your wall.
"The sculpture at Blue Star is approximately 70 ft. long," said Blane de St. Croix, the artist who created the sculpture he calls Broken Landscape III.
The City of San Antonio's Animal Care Services operates a dog shelter facility on the Southside at Brooks City-Base. In its three year history, it hasn't attracted much attention. It was used for overflow from the main campus located off Hwy 151 near the San Antonio Food Bank.
Several weeks ago the Brooks facility transitioned from an overflow shelter to quarantine. It is now responsible for holding animals for bite or cruelty cases.
On Tuesday the Texas Supreme Court heard from attorneys representing competing waste disposal companies in a defamation lawsuit.
The two companies at odds are Waste Management and Texas Disposal System, who runs a landfill in Southeast Travis County and is the source of the defamation case at hand. According to court records, an anonymous action alert fax originating from Waste Management was sent to various groups, pointing to environmental concerns with the TDS landfill.
As Bexar County’s digital bookless library nears three months in operation, service men and women overseas from Bexar County will receive their own library cards in the mail.
Use of BiblioTech is reserved for people who live within Bexar County, even if those people are thousands of miles away. Over the next few weeks, BiblioTech staff are mailing 8000 personal letters to the men and women in the armed forces from Bexar County . In each envelope, a library card with their login information so they can download their own books.
Black Violin, it's the Florida band which has staked out the unlikely intersection of hip hop and classical music. Band member Wilner Baptiste (Wil B) spoke to TPR about the band's outreach efforts in high schools.
"It's something that is very dear to our hearts because we understand," Baptiste said. "We were in a performing arts school that actually had an orchestra."
Baptiste talked about his Fort Lauderdale high school years where, due to budget cuts, he nearly missed being able to learn violin.
More than 250,000 people are expected to once again crowd Hemisfair Park and the surrounding area, including La Villita, for the bash. It's a special time of year, said Judi DeLeon, executive director for the San Antonio Parks Foundation.
"This is a tradition," DeLeon said. "The carnival is here, it's a safe setting. We're right in the middle of downtown. SAPD will be all around us and we've got great food, great music."
A special guest was invited to be a part of the festivities, according to DeLeon, but Texas singer/songwriter Willie Nelson wasn't available.
