April is Child Abuse Awareness month, and San Antonio Sen. Carlos Uresti is calling for more volunteers to help increase the local message of saving children's lives.

Uresti said Bexar County showed an increase in the number of cases of child abuse in 2012.

"Sadly, last year we had 6,205 confirmed cases of child abuse just in Bexar County," Uresti said, adding that 20 of those children died from their injuries.

The back and forth on VIA's proposed modern streetcar continued Thursday night at a meeting to gather public input; the system is on track to launch in 2017, but many people are determined to derail the idea.

The proposed downtown system for San Antonio involves five miles of rail with one route traveling north to south through downtown, and the other east to west. Like most of the exact details involving the system, it's yet to be determined where the embedded rails and overhead powerlines would go.

Neighborhood electric vehicles (NEV's), haven't been allowed on San Antonio side streets since 2006, but they could be making a comeback.

Several serious accidents - often times involving young drivers - prompted a ban of such vehicles, sometimes called low speed vehicles, by the San Antonio City Council. That was seven years ago, but new state laws require them to be licensed and registered and an amendment to the Transportation Code allows the vehicles to travel on roads with a posted speed of 45 miles per hour or less.

Is CSCOPE an education resource designed to help struggling school districts? Or is it a vast anti-American conspiracy that uses Texas classrooms to convert children to Islam and communism?

CSCOPE is an online curriculum management resource developed by the Texas Education Service Center Curriculum Collaborative (TESCCC), a group made up of the 20 education service centers in the state. The group develops their curriculum framework through several sources.

KTXI 90.1 FM lost its audio feed on Saturday morning and remains off the air at this time.

The power supply in the far end of the Studio Transmitter Link (STL) system failed, which is the link that has carried program audio over a T1 telephone circuit for the last 15 years.  

 Irving Berlin is one of those who could easily have written a couple of songs, then retired to fame and great wealth. But like most highly creative people, his life was one of ceaseless creation, to the very end. Among his more than 900 songs are three which might be described as his Holiday Big Three: “God Bless America,” “White Christmas,” and “Easter Parade."

Fifteen young artists studying at the San Anto Cultural Arts Center are working on their first public art sculpture, thanks to a grant from Awesome S-A.

The students thought of an artistic way to meet the ongoing need for bike storage at the center. 

The Edwards Aquifer Authority officially declared Stage 5 pumping restrictions for users of the Uvalde Pool. This stage of the EAA Critical Period Management Plan requires permit holders to reduce their authorized annual pumping from the aquifer by 44 percent.

The EAA declared Stage 5 based on declining water level readings at the J-27 monitoring well in Uvalde. It has been officially confirmed that the 10-day average is below the threshold of 840 feet above sea level.
