More than 100 community members turned out at Sunset Station last night to talk about the city’s proposed streetcar system. The meeting was an effort to begin a two-way dialog between Vía Metropolitan Transit and people who would use and pay for mass transit.

Guests at the meeting gathered around tables with street maps and placed 6-inch lengths of track along downtown thoroughfares where they would like to see streetcars.

Concert series begins Thursday December 6th at 12:00 p.m.

For over 30 years, First Presbyterian Church has offered lunchtime concerts downtown, and on three consecutive Thursdays this year, their tradition continues.

Christmas Through the Ages shows many of sides to the Symphony of the Hills. They will play the first portion of 'The Messiah,' selections by Mannhein Steamroller's Chip Davis as well as A Canadian Brass Chrsitmas. Classical masterworks of Vaughan-Williams and Samuel Barber also round out the program at the Callioux Theater on Thursday, December 6 at 7:30 p.m..

On Wednesday, Command Sgt. Maj. Hu Rhodes was welcomed as the new high-ranking Non-commissioned Officer at Fort Sam.

"I joined the army from here," said Rhodes. "I graduated from McArthur High School in 1971 and this is still listed as my home of record."

Rhodes' most recent assignment was in Africa, where he served citizens in 54 countries.

The day after the Achieve Act was announced, it’s failing to achieve political support. Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) is calling the Achieve Act the wrong approach to solving the immigration problem. 

The Achieve Act is proposed by two retiring senators, Jon Kyl (R) of Arizona and Kay Bailey Hutchison (R) of Texas, and is being called a watered-down version of the Dream Act since it doesn’t provide a path to citizenship.

Opponents of Vía's modern streetcar plan say it is wasteful and illegal, and that commitments to subsidies will be a financial headache to San Antonians for decades to come.

The streetcar plan is for two lines, one that runs North-East on Broadway cutting through Hemisfair downtown, and another East-South from Vía's West Side transit hub, across Nueva St. and down Alamo St.

Northside Independent School District is requesting the RFID case involving a student’s refusal to wear a district-issued ID badge be taken to federal court.

The case was set for this morning at the Bexar County Courthouse, but now a federal judge may hear the arguments. NISD Spokesman Pascual Gonzalez said the district’s attorneys felt it was the proper avenue due to the plaintiff’s constitutional violation claims.

Bexar County is offering classes to help certain small construction businesses get a leg up in securing contracts for new business or increasing their business.

The program is being offered to help the small construction industry business learn about the bonding process for contractors. The information offered can help businesses overcome industry challenges to help them gain surety bonds or increase their current bonding capacities.

The program is free to owners of construction-related businesses that meet minimum size, sales, and activity criteria.
