Latinos may have unique hurdles in getting affordable health care without the Obamacare plan in their future.

Dr. Rogelio Saenz, UTSA’s Dean of Public Policy, said Latinos have the highest levels of non-insurance in the country, and in Texas; they also have the biggest hurdles to climb.

A Fresh Slavonic Wind From The East…

On "The Piano" this Sunday, a collection of riveting pieces that have Slavonic roots. First, Sergei Rachmaninoff and his new, modular approach to music; whether he consciously or unconsciously chose tolling bell patterns as a basis for his 2nd piano sonata, the effect is the same as a great festival in which, at the conclusion, all the church bells get involved.

Then there is Mily Balakirev, who explored the height of piano virtuosity with his "Islamey," featuring a soloist who was never known to rein in his power and audacity - Vladimir Horowitz.

St. Mary's Basketball Team Brings Holiday Cheer To Hospital Patients

It’s no fun being stuck in the hospital over the holidays, and on Thursday, St. Mary’s University Basketball Team took to the streets to deliver some holiday cheer to some of San Antonio’s patients.

“How ya doin’? We’re the St. Mary’s Basketball Team,” Brad Hubenak said, introducing his teammates to patient Johnny Gonzalez.

Housing Authority Awarded $29 Million HUD Grant For Eastside Development

The Housing and Urban Development's Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grant will help revitalize the 71-year-old Wheatley Courts housing complex on the Eastside.  248 families call the courts home, where the average income is only $7,500 per year.

San Antonio Housing Authority President Lourdes Castro-Ramirez said the complex will be completely rebuilt.

Gov. Perry's Push To Ban Abortion Takes Another Step

Gov. Rick Perry announces his support for a bill preventing abortions after 20 weeks at the Source Pregnancy Center in Houston.

Gov. Perry's announcement this week of the "fetal pain" bill is the latest in his attempts at restricting abortion in Texas; pro-life groups applaud the announcement and pro-choice groups are kicking their opposition into high gear. The governor made his announcement at a pregnancy crisis center, but what exactly is a pregnancy crisis center, and where do they get their funding? Freelance reporter Carolyn Jones investigates. Finally, problems with state-funded CPRIT continue to surface, the latest being an $11 million grant that was not reviewed before it was handed out.

SAISD's Alamo Stadium Getting Facelift

Two years after SAISD voters approved a $500,000 bond package, renovations on the districts historic Alamo Stadium have finally broken ground.

Ten athletes from each of the district's middle and high schools ceremoniously broke through a banner in pep rally fashion as the keys to Alamo Stadium were handed off to contractors to begin the 18-month reconstruction. Alamo Stadium is a piece of history for the entire city.

The $35 million in renovations is the largest since the stadium was built in 1939 using rocks from the quarry that is now the zoo.

Northwest Vista College Earns Presidential recognition

Northwest Vista College received the coveted recognition from the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program for outstanding performance in the areas of leadership and customer focus.

Northwest Vista College was the only educational institution in the country that received a site visit to be considered for the Baldrige Award this year.

Dr. Jackie Claunch, Northwest Vista president, said their customer focus is all about the students, and it starts with the people they hire.

CPS First To Get Smartphone App For Home Manager System

CPS customers will be the first in the nation to get a new mobile phone app to run their air-conditioning and electrical systems when it rolls out in February. San Antonio-based Consert, Inc. unveiled its new tablet device earlier this month at a utility company in Tennessee.

Consert Vice-president Jeff Ebihara said although customers have been able to access their Home Managers using their mobile devices, the new app makes the system more portable.

Today's The Day Television Commercials Must Officially CALM Down December 13, 2012 Obnoxiously loud television commercials are now, supposedly, a thing of the past. A new law kicked in today requiring broadcasters to air commercials at the same loudness level as programming. Advertisers and television stations have had some time to prepare for this.

More Latinos Supporting Gay Marriage & Celebrating Hanukkah
