McKinney, just northeast of Dallas, is the county seat of Collin County.  It’s where rock-rib Republicans elected Ken Paxton to the Texas House and Senate. It was his home base as Texans elected him as attorney general last fall.

Collin County is also where Paxton admitted to advising clients to purchase stock from an investment firm without telling them he’d earn commissions when they invested.  Paxton admitted soliciting clients without filing the proper registration papers with the state, and the State Securities Board fined Paxton $1,000 last year.

A local Jazz Festival kicks in on Friday night.

"It’s one of the largest free concerts in the region and it’s recognized throughout the state. People come from all over," said producer Lorenzo Nastasi.

It’s called the Balcones Heights Jazz Festival and it’s known primarily for smooth jazz. But it’s not all just that.

“We’ve had performers that do some Latin Jazz. And one of the things I’ve tried to do more in the last couple of years is bring in more women performers,” said Nastasi.

San Antonio Water System

The San Antonio Water System has issued a record number of landscaping coupons to customers wanting to lower yard water usage.

When SAWS first debuted its Watersaver Landscape Coupon program in 2013, there were about 4,000 applicants. Karen Guz, the Director of Conservation at SAWS, says the number “shocked us, honestly. we didn’t think we’d have that high of participation.”
