Three young people's concerts are free and open to the public on Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday afternoons. The musicians of the Young Artists Program, led by Craig Sorgi, play on these concerts. They will also perform Sergei Prokofiev's Overture on Hebrew Themes on the festival finale Sunday evening.
Baylor College of Medicine has now taken over clinical responsibility at Children's Hospital of San Antonio, which is owned by Christus Santa Rosa.
Believing the need for pediatric care is on the rise, Christus Santa Rosa Health System President Patrick Carrier said children's services are an important part of the health system's care ministry. It started providing pediatric services in 1874. In 1917, the first hospital wing dedicated to pediatrics opened.
Carrier said in 1959 the first hospital for children in San Antonio opened.
Following much anticipation, prediction and some doubt, Gov. Rick Perry has announced he will not seek another term as governor.
A production crew played a campaign video ahead of Perry's speech, which lead most in the crowd to believe he was running for another term, but it was all for naught.
"I remain excited about the future and the challenges ahead, but the time has come to pass on the mantle of leadership. Today, I am announcing I will not seek re-election as governor of Texas," Perry said.
The longest sitting governor in Texas history, Gov. Rick Perry, announced he will not run for office for a fourth time this afternoon. Bexar County is moving ahead to the next step in their effort to reduce the number of non-violent repeat offenders in county jails, which costs the county millions per year.
The county’s re-entry program, which was proposed in a think-tank that met in San Antonio last year, now is getting a building and a curriculum.
The new center will be constructed in an old jail annex building down the street from the existing jail. Mike Lozito is designing the program according to the different needs identified by the committees in the re-entry council.
