An environmental group has released the results of a study that details the cost of the new oil boom known as “Fracking.” Fracking extracts oil and gas from the ground by injecting well sites with a high-pressurized mixture of water, salts and chemicals (see above graphic).
Environment Texas chartered a study of how much fracking costs Texas landowners and cities in terms of damaged roads, contamination, and pollution.
"Texas’ financial insurance standards are inadequate,” explains Luke Metzger, director of Environment Texas.

Insurance inspectors with the state said the Texas Giant roller coaster at Six Flags over Texas in Arlington passed the annual inspection before this weekend's deadly accident involving Rosy Esparza, who fell 14 stories while riding the Texas Giant.
According to the Texas Department of Insurance, roller coasters are inspected on an annual basis by a certified engineer.
Ben Gonzalez is with the Texas Department of Insurance and said that beyond the inspection, there are other requirements for amusement rides in Texas.
Texas currently leads the nation the number of backlogged Veteran Affairs disability claims and Sen. John Cornyn heard firsthand from Veterans about the problems they’ve seen related to the backlog when comes to awarding VA benefits.
But according the Texas Veterans Administration’s Tom Palladino, a new system here in Texas is also leading the way for reducing the backlog.
"So as of this month, July, the total number of claims is at 75,000 and the total number of backlogged claims is at 50,000. So we have helped reduce that," Palladino said.
