Musical Bridges Around the World is bringing a classical music duo to the San Fernando Cathedral on Sunday, February 1st.  I caught up with one of the duo, and found that their unexpected ingredient is a dash of humor.

“Hi, this is Nicholas Canellakis.”

About their San Fernando performance I asked “It’s you and Michael Brown, is it not?”

“Correct; It’s our duo, called the Canellakis-Brown Duo.”

Following a meeting with the Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson, Congressman Lloyd Doggett, a Texas Democrat, stated in a release on Monday that young adults eligible for the expanded Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, could begin the application process on Feb. 18.

On Friday, the remains of Sgt. 1st Class Gilberto Sanchez were lowered into his native Texas soil more than 64 years after the 19 year-old combat medic disappeared in the middle of the Korean War. Sanchez was just one of an estimated 83,000 G.I.s whose remains were lost on the many battlefields of U.S. history.

WASHINGTON  — Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is sending clear signs about an expected run for the presidency in 2016. The first-term Republican lawmaker planned to join several other potential candidates at a gathering Sunday in Palm Springs, California, organized by the conservative billionaire Koch brothers, who have a keen interest in the party’s contenders.

More than 450 allies and donors to the Koch network were to attend, with the closing event a panel discussion with Rubio and fellow Sens. Rand Paul of Kentucky and Ted Cruz of Texas on domestic policy.

AUSTIN — George P. Bush and Texas First Lady Cecilia Abbott made a large anti-abortion rally at the Capitol on Saturday their first headlining events of 2015 as the two political newcomers from familiar Republican families begin putting different faces on Texas conservatism.

The front-and-center billing given to Abbott, less than a week after husband Greg Abbott was sworn in as governor, added to expectations that she could have a more public presence than her predecessor, Anita Perry, who largely avoided the spotlight during her 14 years in the governor's mansion.
