Bexar County plans on launching its own bookless library system this summer. Upon opening, the so-called BiblioTech will be one of the first all-digital public library systems in the country.

As the second edition of HEB’s 16-week Slimdown Showdown begins, the 25 competitors participating this year are taking physicals through the Methodist Health System.

This week is Fit Camp where the contestants attend classes on healthy living and do tests to see where they are physically. On the first day, 34-year-old Juan Ramirez of San Antonio is taking a stress test on a treadmill.

Ramirez said the $10,000 grand prize is not the main goal, instead he wants to lose about 60 lbs. and get a better handle on his lifestyle.

A federal judge has ruled in favor of the Northside Independent School District in a landmark case regarding the radio frequency identification student locator project at two of its schools.

In a 25 page decision, Judge Orlando Garcia denied 15-year-old Andrea Hernandez’s preliminary injunction requesting she remain at John Jay High School without wearing a badge similar to the district’s RFID program.

Now Hernandez has two choices. She can wear a chip-less ID card for uniformity in the school, or she can return to Taft.

HEB is the first grocery chain in Texas to roll out a new nutrition labeling system on items in its stores to assist people in making healthy food choices.

Following guidelines from the USDA, color coded icons appear next to the prices of many items on HEB shelves, to indicate the health factors of a particular food. HEB has piloted this program for about a year, and it’s now being rolled out company wide.

The city has concluded work on a project it started ten months ago to address drainage on Old Highway 90 along Westwood Village Creek. Many other projects from the 2007-2012 bond program are also nearing completion.
