2013 Rock 'N' Roll Marathon Moved to December
The San Antonio Rock 'n' Roll Marathon will become a "Jingle Bell Rock" running event – the mega footrace is moving to December.
The Rock 'n' Roll Marathon has been running the streets of San Antonio for the last five years, and four of those years have been considered too hot and humid for runners stomping out the 26.2 miles.
Dan Cruz is the spokesman for Competitor Group, the organization that organizes the Rock & Roll Marathon Series, and said the next race is going to be December 8.
“In partnership with the city manager and city officials, we’ve kicked around some dates and you have to look at all sorts of things like the availability of convention center space and the Alamodome and other special events that are taking place in the city, and Dec. 8 was a date that worked for them and it worked for us,” Cruz said. “We think it’s going to be a great weekend to run in South Texas.
He added that knowing San Antonio weather, there’s no guarantee that a December race date is going to be cool enough to please the runners.
However, pushing the race date back could actually boost participation in the popular race and attract more runners from across the country looking to finish the year with one last marathon.
“And you can carbo-load on Thanksgiving,” Cruz joked.
As a result of the later date, runners could be jamming to Rock 'n' Roll Christmas Carols.
