A pro-life group supporting Republican Attorney General Greg Abbott for governor has formed a "pro-life truth team" following remarks by Democratic gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis.
Last week Davis was at an event at the University of Texas at Brownsville, where she told reporters that she was pro-life, speaking about the life and well-being of women and children.
"My point there that we have to get away from labels -- that’s the way Washington thinks," Davis said. "It's important for us instead to step back -- step outside of partisan frames either, but certainly step outside ideological labels and work together to do what’s in the best interest of Texans."
It’s those statements that have Texas Right to Life forming a "pro-life truth team." Texas Right to Life’s Melissa Conway said their initiative is to shed light on Davis' definition of the term "pro-life."
"In actuality the definition she puts behind 'pro-life' isn’t one that’s normal or common or widely accepted," Conway said. "You might say she pro-life if you’ve successfully made it outside the womb, however, anyone who has not is in jeopardy."
Texas Right to Life is one of Abbott biggest supporters.
