Alamo Colleges & Workforce Solutions Launch Digital Career Center

www.myalamocareer.org

The Alamo Colleges have launched the first completely virtual career center in the state for people looking for a new job or educational path.

Taking a page from the realm of virtual reality and games like Second Life, those in and around Bexar County interested in another career can wander a digital replica of a career center.

“We’re using a 3D gaming environment to connect them to jobs, education, training, and employment opportunities,” said Eva Esquivel with Workforce Solutions Alamo.

Esquivel said the online center functions as any physical career center or website would operate with job postings, career advice, community resources and financial information. The digital walls were built in a partnership between the Alamo Colleges and Workforce Solutions.

Mario Muniz, who works in public relations at Alamo College, said that while many prefer the physical center or traditional website others may like a new approach.

“Some people might be more comfortable doing it from their living room, from their iPad in a coffee shop, or from their phone on a bus somewhere," Muniz said. "It allows access to resources in a dynamic interesting fashion.”

Muniz said starting next semester exploring the center online will be a requirement for entering students.
