State Sen. Leticia Van De Putte in the TPR studios days after rallying support to successfully defeat the Senate abortion bill.

After serving 24 years in the Texas Legislature, eight in the House and 16 in the Senate, Leticia Van de Putte said goodbye to Austin.

Tuesday was her last day representing San Antonio from Senate District 26.

Senator after senator praised her for her service and she thanked them and others in the chamber for theirs as well. “I thank my fellow San Antonians for allowing me the privilege and the honor of being their voice here at the State Capitol for almost a quarter of a century,” said Van de Putte.

She added, “I’m thankful for our strong faith and continuance in the words ‘In God we Trust.’ God bless all of you. God bless our Texas. It’s been an honor to serve with you, along side of you for the people of this great state.”

Van de Putte resigned to run for San Antonio Mayor. Jose Menendez is filling the District 26 seat.
