Austria's Salzburg Marionettes In San Antonio On Wednesday

Big time puppetry returns to the Alamo City on Wednesday, November 20, thanks to the Children’s Fine Art Series, who have been in San Antonio for 31 years now.

"It actually was the creation of the Montessori school my children were attending," said Executive Director Kathleen Miller. "When I started there wasn’t a whole lot of choice. But I think along the way a lot of people have realized how important that is for young children, and that they can develop that appreciation for arts at that young age."

The Salzburg Marionette Theatre from Austria will be performing at the Laurie Auditorium -- "Hansel and Gretel" at 10 a.m. and then "The Sound of Music" at 7 p.m.

Miller details more about the performances:

"Every little Marionette has their own clothing -- their own shoes, their own dress," she said. "There are 11 puppeteers. They’re on scaffolding and they are phenomenal."

I told Miller that there are people who would probably say that marionettes are just so last century.

"Well, there are also a lot of people calling and they are just so excited, and so this is actually the top of the line in marionettes," Miller said.
