Mark Rogers finds masterworks for Wind Ensemble:
The idea of a symphony for band isn't new, but hearing Brahms' First Symphony for wind ensemble might confuse you at first. Mark assures us that we will like it, and that the arrangement fits.
"Brahms himself liked arrangements. Take his Hungarian Dances. Those were published originally as piano for hand music. When all was said and done, we know them today as orchestral works, and there are violin & piano arrangements, cello, winds, you name it. And almost none of those were arranged by Brahms, but he loved them."
The concert Tuesday night at Northeast Lakeview College starts at 7:30pm and includes patriot selections on the first half. The second half is Brahms' First Symphony, arranged for wind ensemble. The concert is free, although donations are accepted.
