A Big Total For The Big Give

UPDATE, 4:00 p.m. Thursday May 8: Big Give S.A. organizers have updated their city-wide total, which now stands at $2,017,441.50.

Original post:

It was a big day for San Antonio. Organizers of The Big Give S.A. cheered the “incredible” response to the first-ever 24-fundraising day, which raised nearly $2 million dollars for over 460 area non-profits.

Thank you so much to the 297 Texas Public Radio listeners who gave a total of $13,328. Two of our three challenges from an anonymous friend of TPR were met during the Big Give S.A., adding an additional $5,000 to the total. The money will go into the operating budget of Texas Public Radio, which funds the work of our team that brings you news, arts and culture every day on-air and online.

Throughout the day on May 6, several organizations around town hosted or sponsored Big Give S.A. watch parties, including TPR, partnering with the San Antonio Symphony. You can see photos in the slideshow above. Below is a Vine video featuring members of the San Antonio Symphony performing downtown in Travis Park.

Carin Lamontagne joined the Texas Public Radio team in October 2012. She graduated from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) in 1996 with a B.A. in history, and she also studied anthropology and vocal music performance.
