Bluebonnets Are Blooming All Over Texas

The spring rain has fallen, the air has warmed, and the flowers are blooming. A drive in almost any direction will lead you to bluebonnets.

There are bluebonnets all over Texas right now. And with this being called a good year to see them, many people will be taking drives into the country this weekend.

How long the bluebonnets will bloom depends primarily on the weather, according to Andrea DeLong-Amaya, Director of Horticulture at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin.

“If we get some hot, dry weather, things might slow down a little bit and wrap up more quickly. Or if we get nice cool rains, well spaced, it might prolong it a little bit longer, which would be very nice for us,” she said. “I’m guessing we’re peaking right now and in the next week or two and then it will slow down a little bit after that.”

Indian paintbrushes are also blooming, right along with the bluebonnets.

If you do take a drive this weekend, it’s advised that you don’t stop along busy roads and don’t trespass on private property.

But in any case, enjoy the view.
