Books, Music And Journalists Get Funny: Your Weekend's Here!

The weekend's upon us. Books, music and journalists getting funny onstage are all beckoning to you this weekend. First off, head to the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts.

"His hands are gigantic. His whole personality is big," says the San Antonio Symphony's Sebastian Lang-Lessing talking about piano soloist Garrick Ohlsson.

"We start with William Tell Overture by Rossini." (This is where Lang-Lessing makes the sound of the William Tell Overture with his mouth. You know the part!)

"... the best part is the introduction. The cello solo," he says.

He's betting you'll like that lesser-known part of the overture. Also being played are Brahms Piano Concerto #2 and Mendelssohn's Symphony #4.

Then on Saturday morning head north to the Patrick Heath Public Library. "We are doing the Boerne Book Festival," says Librarian Robin Stauber talking about the library's first foray from book fair to book festival.

"This is an event that we hope celebrates books and storytelling here in downtown Boerne. It starts this Saturday and goes from about 10 to 4 and we have about 45 authors. We have panel discussions, a food truck, a story time hour... ." She thought a minute. "And we also have a ballet!"

One of the featured authors in the free event: San Antonio's famous David Liss.

"He's going to be here with Joe McKinney, and they are going to be heading up a panel on heroes and villains."

Then on Saturday night, The Gridiron Show--it's not football.

"No, it doesn't have anything to do with football," says TPR's Eileen Pace, who serves as the event's announcer. She says it's got a great big touch of SNL.

"Saturday Night Live makes fun of current events and weird, pop culture events. And that's what we do."

It's the Society of Professional Journalists acting in ways you just wouldn't expect. Acting, singing, dancing.

"And you put 'em on a stage and some of them are just really talented!"
