The San Antonio Botanical Garden has added several pieces of temporary art to its expanding campus, with five steel pieces by Rodrigo Garagarza, said the garden's executive director Bob Brackman.
"He was inspired by the playing jacks that we all enjoyed playing with when we were children. So he's made very huge playing jacks,” Brackman said.
The five pieces by Garagarza, who is from Mexico City, are each approximately 3-feet tall and sit by the flowers and palms in the entrance area of the conservatory.

Brackman said for the last 10 years, the art in the garden program has placed local and international works throughout the garden's 38 acres.
"We always think our garden is an artistic horticultural form, but having sculptural art as a wonderful compliment is a good way to have a quality experience for our guests,” he said.
Brackman said there are additional art installations in the garden, including a series of 77 pieces installed in October by Diana Kersey.
Her sculptures consist of brightly colored blooms, arching up to get sunshine. Others appear to be stylized, color-infused barrel cacti from a children's book.
"They're wonderful, whimsical ceramics that are in and around all of our colorful plants in the exhibit room,” he said. “Sometimes it's confusing to see which are her ceramics, and which are the bromeliads and other plants and blooms.”
Both exhibits will be on display until Aug. 12. The 2.5 acre Family Adventure Garden also opens March 3.
