UPDATE, October 2, 10:30 a.m.: Tonight's Opening Night Gala at Carnegie Hall has been canceled due to a strike by the IATSE (International Alliace of Theatrical Stage Employees) Local One stagehands. Host Fred Child reports there is the possibility of a broadcast from an alternate venue, as the Philadelphia Orchestra plans a free concert at the Kimmel Center in their home town.

Last year, KPAC 88.3 FM listeners were treated to prime seats at Carnegie Hall through a series of live broadcasts from the famed venue. Hosts Jeff Spurgeon (WQXR) and Performance Today's Fred Child did a great job of making the concerts into real events, commenting on the performances with an enthusiasm usually reserved for top-ranking sports teams, and interacting with the audience in real-time through Twitter and Facebook. It made for exciting listening!
American Public Media and WQXR-FM have announced their 2013-2014 concert series, and KPAC and KTXI listeners will again have the opportunity to hear these terrific performances live, as they happen.
Some of the highlights this year include newly-named MacArthur "Genius" Jeremy Denk playing Mozart with the San Francisco Symphony, and an afternoon recital with Yo-Yo Ma and Emanuel Ax.
The season opens with the Philadelphia Orchestra, joined by violinist Joshua Bell and guest vocalist Esperanza Spalding, in concert for Carnegie Hall’s “Opening Night Gala” on Wednesday, October 2 at 6 p.m. on KPAC 88.3 FM and KTXI 90.1 FM.
