College Hopefuls Still Suffering After Recession

Texas public college and university enrollment rose by 22.5 percent between 2007 and 2012, but state funding fell.

That’s according to a report out today from the association of State Higher Education Executive Officers.

At the same time, Texas appropriations for higher education dropped six percent per student. That’s through the recession in a state that did better than most.

Texas was among 48 states that reduced “constant-dollars” for students in public institutions. Still, Texans fared better than most. Thirty states reduced funding for students by more than 20 percent over the same period.
