Connecting Worlds And Culture With Choral Music

Wednesday night there is a chance to hear choral music with a twist. Mwangaza Children's Choir is a group of Ugandan children (ages 8-12) who represent the orphaned and poor youth of their country.

Mwangaza means "shining light" in Swahili. The majority of their concerts are performed in English, but some parts are in their native language.

The choir, which is based in Gaba, Uganda, tours  internationally as an outreach to "share a special message of hope through original Ugandan song and dance," said Music Director Tom Dooling. "In the process the children seek to raise awareness of and resources for the churches, schools, orphanages, medical clinics and child sponsorships that have been established by Africa Renewal Ministries."

They will be singing Wednesday night at First Presbyterian Church in downtown San Antonio. Dooling talked to John Clare about the concert.
