These days artists and organizations are reaching out to connect with audiences. Preconcert talks, galas, and after show receptions are the norm. Even preconcert interviews and videos make up a large part of audience outreach.
There have been creative endeavors, including classical music cruises, new performances spaces like art galleries and bars, plus new social media outlets such as twitter, youtube, facebook, and instagram! You may have even seen classical cookbooks: Pavarotti's pasta, Die Oper Kocht, and a whole slew of others.
Now, ramping things up is a fun and musical show: Sarah's Prelude & Food - from the gregarious horn player of the Berlin Philharmonic, Sarah Willis. She has numerous recordings and videos, but has taken things to a new level in this online TV show.
What an amazing show as artists enjoy each other's company, perform, and well, cook!
A description for the guests on their first episode on the website reads:
- Anna Prohaska: shooting star of the opera world, likes listening to heavy metal whilst jogging and cooking
- Christoph Schneider: drummer in the Band Rammstein, classical music lover and not a fan of cooking shows
- Anna Kubelik: architect, stage designer, actress and makes her own jewellery
- Lavinia Whitaker: Australian oboist living in Berlin, admits to having done auditions with blue hair
While the show is in German there are English subtitles. Future guests include cellist Alban Gerhardt, and conductor Donald Runnicles. One picture on their site shows Gerhardt playing cello with oven mitts! Here is a sample of the first episode:
