Cowboys, Cuba and Joe King Carrasco: Your Weekend's Here!

You've managed to make it just about to the weekend and we've found some things you might find really fun. First, let's start Saturday at high noon at the BriscoeWestern Art Museum where they're celebrating the International Day of the Cowboy. They call it the Briscoe Blast.

"Live music, art activities, and games for the adults and for the kids."

Ed Parsons will be rustling up authentic chuck wagon food, cooking cowboy donuts, biscuits and pineapple upside down cake. This free Briscoe event will take place both inside, and outside in the McNutt Family courtyard. They will have misters stationed outside to nullify the heat.

"All to celebrate the heritage of the cowboy and the cowgirl, and most importantly the vaquero. Vaqueros were here first, remember."

Then on Saturday night, downtown at Hotel Havana's Ocho.

"For five years now we've had Hemingway's Birthday, it kinda goes with our theme."

Sandra Puente says that theme is Cuba, and Saturday it will sound and feel a lot that way. They'll have a band playing music befitting the club and Hemingway himself.

"This year it will be a Latin/Jazz kind of music.  And then the chef puts together some food specials as well."

A Hemingway book movie adaptation will be projected at the hotel and club that overlooks the River Walk. Also on Saturday night head up I-10 West to Boerne.

"Joe King Carrasco is our headliner. And he's been this really wonderful artist with a really long repertoire."

Julia Murphy says the former Austin artist is  playing the Cibolo Nature Center's Moondance.

"It's an outdoor concert. You can bring a picnic blanket, even a cooler, and just enjoy live music under the stars."

The event will be held under a great big live oak motte and yes--there's a dance floor. Also, the San Antonio League of Sidewalk Astronomers will have telescopes stationed outside of that oak motte. Murphey says the moon will be big, but there's much more.

"Jupiter, Mars and Saturn are going to be spectacular in the night sky."
