Enjoy an Evening at the Briscoe

Kasey Rives

Tuesday, January 19, you're invited to spend a unique evening strolling the galleries of the Briscoe Western Art Museum, enjoying light refreshments, and learning more about the museum and its special exhibit of student art from across Texas.

In addition to the roping, riding, and livestock auctions each year, the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo invites high school students from across the state to create artwork with a western theme. The Student Western Art Contest, Exhibit and Auctionencourages Texas youth in their appreciation of our western heritage and assists them in their educational endeavors. From over 300 submissions, the very best works are placed on display before moving to the rodeo grounds. Entries judged as the Top 25 are auctioned to the highest bidder with each student receiving a scholarship in the amount of the winning bid. Many of the students who benefit from this program will be the first in their families to attend college.

Texas Public Radio is partnering with the Briscoe Museum and the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo to raise awareness of these young talented artists by hosting an evening at the Briscoe, where TPR audience members can browse the galleries and learn more about the talented student artists.

The reception is from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., which is located at 210 W. Market St. in downtown San Antonio. The museum and student exhibition will stay open until 9:00 pm.
