Five Finalists Named For Police Chief

There are now five people named as finalists in the search for the next San Antonio Police Chief.

More than 60 applicants applied for the position. Included in the short list of candidates are the current interim police chief Anthony Treviño and Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo. Also under consideration are Roberto Villaseñor, chief of police of Tuscon Arizona; Malik Aziz, deputy chief of Dallas; and Albert Salinas, deputy chief of Las Vegas.

The hiring process will include questioning from three community panels made up of participants of 24 community organizations including the San Antonio Police Officers Association, the NAACP, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and Geekdom.

The city expects to appoint a chief later this month with confirmation by the city council in September.
