The Daughters of the Republic of Texas organization has a new location to house and exhibit its 38,000-item collection of artifacts. Bexar County Commissioners Court agreed to a $25,000 lease agreement with Texas A&M-San Antonio for 10,000 square feet of exhibit space in the former Federal Reserve Building at 126 East Nueva.
Dr. Betty Edwards, President General of the DRT, told commissioners court this facility is wonderful.
“It extremely doubles or triples the space that we had at our Alamo library,” said Edwards. “We’ll be able to exhibit many more things for the public, for them to appreciate our collection.”
County Judge Nelson Wolff says that it will allow the County, Texas A&M-San Antonio, and the DRT to collaborate on exhibits.
“It’s going to be a really extraordinary opportunity to give citizens, students, scholars, the opportunity to come down here to see some of these extraordinary documents,” said Wolff.
The agreement is for two years with three one-year options for renewal.
