A Trump Ocean Resort Baja highway billboard with a large photo of Donald Trump that advertises condos for sale remains on the project lot on the outskirts of Tijuana, Mexico, Feb. 27, 2009.

Donald Trump Becomes GOP Presidential Nominee

It’s now official, the man who wants to build a wall on the border between America and our neighbor to the south is the Republican presidential nominee.

Donald Trump Junior cast the ballots that gave his father the nomination at this week’s Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

SOT Donald Trump Jr:  "It is my honor to be able to throw Donald Trump over the top in the delegate count tonight with 89 delegates, (applause) Congratulations Dad, we love you. (applause)"

Border Poll Shows Residents On Both Sides Oppose Wall

Trump’s nomination has not been unanimous among the GOP.  Texas Senator Ted Cruz refused to endorse the businessman when he took the stage at the convention Wednesday night.  And a new poll shows the majority of people who live on both sides of the border don’t want the wall Trump says he’ll build if elected.

Cronkite News of the University of Arizona, the Dallas Morning News and Univision conducted the bilingual poll which questioned many people in cross-border sister cities like San Diego and Tijuana. It indicates 72 percent of border residents living in the U.S. and 86 percent of those in Mexico – are against putting up a wall. Tom Fudge of KPBS found out more about how the people there feel from Cronkite News borderlands bureau director Angela Kocherga.
