Gov. Perry Talks Presidential Bid, Second Chances On 'Meet The Press'

Speaking this weekend on NBC’s "Meet the Press," Gov. Rick Perry was asked about the gaffs in his failed 2012 presidential run and how to recover ahead of the 2016 election.

Perry seems to be showing more signs of a 2016 run and said America is a land of second chances.

"I would tend to agree with them on the botched effort side of it," Perry said.

"So what went wrong?" asked host David Gregory.

"Listen," Perry said, "I think America is a place that believes in second chances. I think we see more character out of an individual by how do you perform after you fail and you go forward.”

So can Perry get a second look from those within the Republican Party and get enough of those looks in order to win the nomination in 2016?

"I think it’s really important for us to really listen to the American people," Perry said. "And I think Americans are really worried about, 'How am I going to take care of my family?' I’m really worried about those 90 million people who are out of work and hope that over the next six to eight months as we go into those November elections that there’s that type of approach.”

Perry was asked if there was enough room in the 2016 presidential race for him, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.

"It’s a big state," Perry said. "It’s a big state.”

Perry said for the next nine months he will focus on his duties as governor and continue touring the nation, trying to convince businesses to re-locate to Texas and using his group Americans for Economic Freedom to tout financial success of red states versus blue states.
