The Hills Are Alive With The Sounds Of The Holidays

Kerrville’s Symphony of the Hills will soon be filling those hills with music. I  spoke with its Assistant Conductor Gene Dowdy.

“It’s our annual holiday concert and one of the most spectacular parts of this concert is that we feature our Grand Symphony Chorus under the direction of Linda Ables, so we get the chorus and the orchestra together; it just makes for an impressive evening.”

“The music itself is inspired by the holiday season," Dowdy says. "So you’re going to hear Christmas Carols, and symphonic and choral settings of famous holiday tunes, both popular and sacred. And we’re even going to throw in some Hanukkah music, so it’ll be a wonderful evening.”

Kerrville’s Callioux Theatre is where it all happens.

"Thursday, December 4th, the concert is at 7:30pm. There’s usually a wine reception before the concert. This is really a joyful time of year. Our concert is themed 'Joy' and from the downbeat of 'It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,' the audience will feel lifted up about this joyful season.”
