Holiday South Texas Weekend Fun

It’s a long holiday weekend in the Alamo City, and I've found some interesting things for you to consider doing. First off on Friday night, Jazz in the Garden. Here’s CarynHossbocher.

"From 6 until 9 we are opening up the garden for or Jazz in the Garden summer series."

The Garden is the Japanese Tea Garden with Koi ponds, waterfalls and amazing architecture. Playing is Bad Banjo Brown.

“I understand that he’s so good that people get up and dance the night away.”

I asked if Bad Banjo Brown was a solo act.

"No, it is a band. They play not only jazz but swing style music."

And Friday night they’re doing it for Free in one of the city’s lesser-known, but legendary locations. Then on Saturday head up to Fredericksburg to the National Museum of the Pacific War for the Bob Hope Traveling Exhibit. 700 pictures, 7 videos and 1700 artifacts make up the display featuring Hope’s wartime entertainment tours to the South Pacific. Admission to the Museum for this—just like Hope’s USO tours—is free.

Also on Saturday, something big’s happening at Woodlawn Lake. Here’s Noah Almanza.

“It’s the fifteenth annual official City of San Antonio 4th of July Celebration.”

Fireworks are at the end of the day, but starts with this.

“We’re going to do a Zumbathon to kick off the event at 8:30 in the morning in the Gym at Woodlawn Lake Park. We will have a children’s parade at eleven. The day will continue with all sorts of festivities, a Kid Zone, carnival rides.”

And after dark, things get loud. Really loud.

“Oh yeah—we’re shooting the fireworks off at 9:30, and we’re going to have live music throughout the day. There’s not a better place to watch fireworks than over water.”

All in all, a fun-filled Holiday Weekend in South Texas.
