Nearly one in six people between the ages of 18 and 25 needed treatment for substance abuse in 2017, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
Many in this age range are enrolled in or headed to college – a place largely considered to be “abstinence hostile" due to the standard drug-and-alcohol-fueled party culture.

Why are there not more on-campus substance abuse recovery programs?
How can we ensure no student has to choose between their recovery and their education?
Guests:
- Kristen McElroy, assistant director of The Center for Collegiate Recovery at UTSA
- John Shiflet, board member for the Association of Recovery in Higher Education and director for the collegiate recovery program at the University of Houston
- Kristen Harper, technical assistance coordinator of the Higher Education Grantee Program for Transforming Youth Recovery
