Lang-Lessing Brings Symphonies And Concertos To Brahms Festival
San Antonio Symphony debuts on its curated concerts at the Majestic
While the San Antonio Symphony usually plays one pair of identical subscription concerts, their Brahms Festival will show different programs each day. The festival and concerts started back in January, but this Friday will mark the symphony's first concerts for the festival.
Kirill Gerstein will perform both Piano Concertos and the other half of the Friday and Saturday concerts will have the First and Second Symphonies.
Sunday afternoon at the Majestic, Sebastian Lang-Lessing with showcase only Brahms' Second Symphony with an interactive program called Discover Brahms Second.
"This influence of Joachim on Brahms was very important, not only in the violin writing for the Violin Concerto or Violin Sonatas, but also I think the way Brahms wrote the best violin lines in the whole repertoire. His violin writing is just fantastic."
The following weekend, February 15-17, violinist Vadim Gluzman will play the Violin Concerto and Double Concerto with cellist Jian Wang, and Lang-Lessing will lead the Third and Fourth Symphonies.
A Discover Brahms' Fourth program will round things out on Sunday afternoon, again including a demonstration, performance and Q&A with the maestro.
