Texas Public Radio invites listeners to attend the 2012–2013 season of “Carnegie Hall Live” from the comfort of their own homes. Presented by Carnegie Hall, American Public Media and WQXR-FM, the series includes eleven live broadcasts through April 2013.
The performances feature classical music’s leading instrumental and vocal artists in orchestra and chamber music concerts and recitals, and the series will air on KPAC 88.3 FM in San Antonio and KTXI 90.1 in the Hill Country. The next live concert broadcast in the series airs Wednesday, November 7 at 6:30 p.m. and features the Belcea Quartet performing two of Beethoven’s seminal works: the E-flat Major Quartet, Op. 127 and the B-flat Major Quartet, Op. 130.
Each broadcast includes interviews with the artists during intermission. Listeners are encouraged to interact online with the hosts, the artists and each other on Twitter using the #CHLive.
Texas Public Radio’s Director of Classical Programming Nathan Cone says, “These live broadcasts are presented with the kind of excitement and enthusiasm that is usually reserved for San Antonio Spurs games. Hosts Fred Child and Jeff Spurgeon really help make the shows come to life.”
Upcoming “Carnegie Hall Live” performances feature artists such as the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela, the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique with the Monteverdi Choir, Renée Fleming and Susan Graham, the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra and Staatskapelle Dresden. The performances include works by Beethoven, Mozart, Brahms and Handel, 20th-century compositions by Carlos Chávez and Silvestre Revueltras and several contemporary pieces, some co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall.
