Magik Theatre Hires New Artistic Director

Suzanne Plunkett
Frances Limoncelli

The founder of downtown's MagikTheatre is retiring from his position. Richard Rosen created the theater in 1994, where it occupies the west end of HemisFair Park on South Alamo Street. Frances Limoncelli becomes the new managing artistic director Aug. 1.

"I'm a lifelong theater artist; have been working in the theater professionally for 24 years in the Chicago community, and I'm sort of a jack of all trades. I'm an actress and a playwright and a director, as well as an arts administrator."

Limoncelli will be directing a Richard Rosen-written production this next season so, though retired, he will still collaborate with the theater.

"I think after 20 years it's good for an organization to have an infusion of fresh energy and new ideas, so I think it's very good timing for Magik," said Limoncelli.

The Magik specializes in theatrical productions of children's classic and contemporary literature.
