May Runoff Results Narrow Down Key Races For November Election

Ballots across the state showed just two candidates per race in the May 22 runoff elections to decide which Democratic and GOP candidates will compete in November elections.

A runoff race is triggered when none of the candidates secure more than 50 percent of the vote. In Texas, more than 30 racesrequired a second round of voting.

Key contests for the San Antonio area include Congressional District 23 and the Democratic Party's challenge to incumbent Will Hurd, plus a four-way race for retiring Congressman Lamar Smith's congressional seat in District 21.

For the Texas legislature, House District 121 is the San Antonio-area seat of outgoing Texas Speaker Joe Straus, a Republican.

As Texas prepares for the next state legislative session, which candidates could serve on behalf of the San Antonio area? How can Texas representation in Washington change in 2019?

General Election Day is November 6, 2018.
