The countdown is on for Fiesta 2013 and Mayor Julián Castro is asking Fiesta-goers be fit and green during the 11-day celebration.

April 18 through April 28 San Antonians will be occupied with traditional parades and parties. Castro said Fiesta is the time for fun and frivolity, but it can be done while keeping Fiesta green.

"We’re here today to invite folks out, of course, to Fiesta, but also to challenge San Antonians to participate in this fit and green Fiesta in the year 2013," Castro said.

the mayor is urging more fit Fiesta events where fun seekers can be physically active while enjoying the festivities. Fiesta attendees are encouraged to use the B-Cycle bike share program to travel to Fiesta events.

This year marks the second year that smoking will be banned on the parade routes, and Fiesta-goers are encouraged to use the recycling bins at the events.
