MPO Seeking Additional Public Input For Bexar-Comal-Guadalupe-Kendall Transportation Plan

The Metropolitan Planning Organization is asking public input from residents in Kendall, Comal, and Guadalupe Counties before regional transportation planning gets underway.

As of the 2010 census, New Braunfels is designated as part of the San Antonio urban metro area, and officials say the law requires that New Braunfels be incorporated into the San Antonio-Bexar County MPO.

Its next job is to design a new, 25-year regional transportation plan that includes the counties of Comal and Guadalupe and the cities of Boerne, Seguin and New Braunfels. Officials say the board will change the name of the organization to reflect its new, broader scope. Kendall County has voted to remain outside the MPO.

The MPO's first round of eight public and two virtual meetings for Mobility 2040 has just been completed. Officials held meetings in Boerne, New Braunfels, Seguin, plus several in San Antonio.

But the organization needs more public input and has created a website for residents of the four-county region to outline transportation problems and issues, present ideas for development, and make additional comments.

With another 1.5 million people being added to the existing MPO through the reorganization process, officials say they must plan carefully to keep people and freight moving through the region.
