"Mujeres Mercado" Women's Market, A New Event Created From Tradition

If you’ve not done with all your holiday shopping, here’s a suggestion that might wrap up your shopping, and give you a fun night out at the same time. Drop by the Mujeres Mercado — that’s ‘Women’s Market’ in Spanish. Here's the Mujeres Mercado co-founder, Christina Martinez.

“We have about close to 200 women in our network right now that are all handmade artisans, traditional healers, performers. And we just create events.”

It’s commerce, food, music, entertainment, all in one place?

“All in one place and they’re really honoring the traditions that have been passed down to us.”

Now this is one of those shop local-forget the big box stores, kind of thing, right?

“Yeah, absolutely. I think that it’s really important to think about where you’re spending your dollars, and to think about who that’s supporting.”

Two hundred women artisans, healers and performers converge on the Main Plaza Saturday night, from 7-11 p.m.

“There’s also going to be some food trucks. There’s going to be tamales and hot chocolate. There’s also, of course, going to be beautiful Christmas lights in downtown San Antonio.”

And then the amazing Saga animation on the front of the San Fernando Cathedral.

“And it’s going to be really, really fun.”

We’ve more on the Mujeres Mercado here.
