New Braunfels Starting To Fill Void Left By Scooter Store Collapse
The gaping hole left by the Scooter Store in New Braunfels will soon be filled with a new employer.
IBEX Global will put hundreds of people to work in New Braunfels when it opens a call center operation in November, moving into the multi-story office building vacated by the Scooter Store in April.
IBEX, a business-process outsourcing company with 7,000 employees worldwide, plans to hire up to 300 call-center workers by year’s end with a goal of doubling that number as it ramps up to full speed. A job fair is scheduled at the New Braunfels location Monday, Oct. 14 through Wednesday, Oct. 16.
The Scooter Store began furloughing employees with a major layoff last spring after 150 FBI agents descended on the building and removed evidence for a Department of Justice investigation.
The New Braunfels–based supplier of motorized scooters finally shut down the remainder of its operations in September and an auction house liquidated its remaining equipment and furnishings. At its peak, the Scooter Store employed more than 2,000 workers.
