New Programs On TPR This Fall

Nathan Cone
/
TPR

At TPR, we’re always listening, to public radio shows from across the country, and to you. We’ve recently made some program changes to our lineup on certain TPR stations, and a few more program additions are coming. The new shows are all part of our station-wide goal to serve our community better, and we always appreciate feedback at letters@tpr.org.

Below is a rundown of some of the already-in-progress and soon-to-come program changes.

LIVE AT JAZZ, TX: A sixteen-week series of concerts and interviews from the hottest new music venue in San Antonio, located at the Pearl, featuring bandleader Doc Watkins and friends. TPR’s Nathan Cone hosts and produces. Airing Saturdays at 7 p.m. on all TPR stations (except KTXI and KPAC). Find all the shows online at: http://tpr.org/programs/live-jazz-tx You can be a part of the show, too! Select Wednesday nights at Jazz, TX are recorded for broadcast. Find the club's schedule online here.

RADIO AMBULANTE: A limited series featuring highlights from NPR’s award-winning podcast featuring in-depth journalism and stories from across Latin America and the United States. "Radio Ambulante" is currently being tested by TPR in Del Rio. The show is broadcast in Spanish, and is locally hosted and produced by Yvette Benavides. Saturdays at 6 p.m., only on KTPD 89.3 in Del Rio. You'll find the podcast online, here.

GUADALUPE VALLEY VIEWS: A weekly visit with newsmakers and notable citizens in the Guadalupe Valley area, produced exclusively for KCTI-AM 1450 in Gonzales, TX. Hosted by Egon Barthels, a veteran radio personality. Fridays at 12:00 p.m. Barthels also produces a daily, 2-minute community report for KCTI which airs mornings and afternoons.

Beginning the weekend of October 7-8, you’ll hear the following programs on TPR stations.

Sam Sanders

IT’S BEEN A MINUTE with SAM SANDERS: A San Antonio native who’s made good at NPR, Sam Sanders was a popular voice during NPR’s 2016 election coverage, produced NPR’s weekly Snapchat sessions, and for a few months now has hosted this program as a podcast. Launching in October as a weekly series, On "It's Been a Minute," Sam talks with journalists, newsmakers, and listeners about news, popular culture, and the internet -- stories big and small, about all subjects, with equal vigor and interest. Saturdays at 3 p.m. on all TPR stations (except KPAC).

FRESH AIR WEEKEND: Highlights from the previous week’s programs. Sundays at 3 p.m. on TPR stations (except KPAC).

CONCIERTO: A two-hour show devoted to the Latin American and Spanish influence on classical music, including composers, conductors, and performers. Produced by WDAV in North Carolina, "Concierto" is hosted by Frank Dominguez, and is presented bilingually in English and Spanish. Sundays at 7 p.m. on KPAC 88.3 FM and KTXI 90.1 FM.

CLASSICAL GUITAR ALIVE: A one-hour program featuring classical music written for guitar, or guitar/ensemble, and featuring occasional interviews with performers and composers. "Classical Guitar Alive" is hosted by guitarist Tony Morris, and produced at KMFA in Austin. Sundays at 9 p.m. on KPAC 88.3 FM and KTXI 90.1 FM.

The addition of "It's Been a Minute" and "Fresh Air Weekend" means the BBC Newshour will no longer be heard at 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. We hope these programming tweaks strengthen TPR's relationship to the community. As always, thanks for listening, and for your support of Texas Public Radio!
