Nirenberg Hosting Forum On Zika

An exceptionally wet summer and extra warm temperatures this fall have created an ideal environment for mosquitoes to breed.

Health officials say the mosquito-friendly weather has them concerned about the spread of the Zika virus. They're hoping to reach a larger set of residents in a health forum on Zika this weekend.

San Antonio Councilman Ron Nirenberg is hosting the forum so health officials can offer residents the latest scientific information and instructions on how to protect their families.

"There is heightened concern whenever there's a spread of disease like Zika and West Nile, and we've had reported cases - as any big city would -- so we want to make sure residents have the right information," Nirenberg says. "It can be scary if you don't have the right information and we have health department officials that are ready to do that Saturday."

The "what-you-need-to-know-about-zika" forum is scheduled for just one hour Saturday morning, starting at 10:30 a.m. at the Cody Library on Vance Jackson South of Huebner Road.

Residents of all districts are invited but RSVPs are appreciated due to space limitations.

Saturday, October 22 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Cody Library, 11441 Vance Jackson.
