Nolwenn: French Singer Has Celtic Roots

Mercury Music Group/Decca

Nolwenn Leroy is a French singer who has just released her sixth album, simply named 'Nolwenn.' She was eleven when she began taking violin lessons, and continued her music education as a teenager in Ohio, where she spent a year as an exchange student.

In 2002, she was the winner of the French television talent show, "Star Academy," and her debut album was released the following year.  Her most recent release contains a mixture of  songs sung in Breton, English and  Irish.

Leroy comes from Brittany, a peninsula in the northwest corner of France that continues to be defined by its  Celtic roots. The name of the region comes from settlers from Great Britain who arrived in the area some 1,500 years ago.
